US drilling rig count seesaws back up 6 units to 1,771

The US drilling rig count gained back 6 units during the week ended June 14, seesawing back to a total of 1,771 rotary drilling rigs working, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

Rigs drilling for oil gained 7 units to reach 1,413, while those targeting gas lost 1 unit this week, reaching 353 rigs working. Five drilling rigs were considered unclassified, unchanged from a week ago.

Rigs drilling horizontally were reported at 1,086, down 2 units from a week ago, and 76 fewer than the comparable week last year. Rigs drilling directionally gained another 6 units this week to reach 244. This compared with 233 rigs working horizontally in the comparable week a year ago.

Canada’s drilling rig count gained 24 units this week to reach 176. This count includes 126 rigs drilling for oil (up 26 units from a week ago) and 50 units drilling for gas (down 2 rigs from last week). Canada’s rig count total was down 72 units from the comparable week last year.
