Vacuum Degasser for safe drilling

2013-09-07
Vacuum DegasserVacuum Degasser is used to remove the small entrained gas bubbles left in the mud by the mud/gas separator. These units are positioned downstream from mud/gas separators, gumbo removal equipments (if utilized), shale shakers and mud conditioners (if utilized), while hydrocyclone desanders and decanting centrifuges follow in the arrangement.

The tail of exhaust pipe of vacuum degasser should be installed in safety zone, and keep a certain safe distance from wellhead and ground waste water pool. The valve should be installed on the exhaust pipe and separated into two branches, in this way the gas will always be lighted on leeward side of ground waste water pool and wellhead.

Need to be reminded that some toxic gas is heavier than the air, and this toxic gas will gathered in low area, so if working at near exhaust pipe, the workers should watch out.

Vacuum degassers have more moving parts and higher initial cost. This is due primarily to the vacuum pump and attendant components. They are, however, much more efficient. Because gas volume is inversely proportional to pressure, gas bubbles surface from a fluid more rapidly under pressure. By combining impact and turbulence features with low pressure, modern vacuum degassers prove to be fast acting and highly effective in separating dissolved gasses.
