Why we use the Decanter Centrifuge in drilling


Decanter centrifuge also known as Horizontal screw discharge sedimentation centrifuge, is the special equipment of solid-liquid separation, designed by the characteristic of drilling fluid.


The drilling fluid enter into decanter centrifuge drum and rotate. Because of the effect of centrifugal force field, the speed of delamination process will faster than the process which under the action of gravity. The centrifuge generate centrifugal force amount to 400g~3000g acceleration, only need a few seconds can accomplish the separation process, however under the action of gravity need a few hours, even a few days.


It can accomplish each procedure of feed, centrifugal sedimentation, unloading, etc. It mainly uses for recycling barite, eliminating small solid, reducing the solid content of drilling fluid, controlling the density and viscosity of drilling fluid, ensuring the performance of drilling fluid, and play an important role in quick drilling.


For traditional weighted drilling fluid, the economic rationality of using centrifuge is recycle the barite to reduce the cost. However, this is not the most important benefit. If we don’t use the centrifuge, the density of fine particle will heighten, and the drilling mud quality will become bad. This will increase the processing costs of borehole, compared with the cost saving by recycling the barite, this is the greater economic factors.
